50 Book challenge update: Book #52: Hunter's Prayer by Lillith Saintcrow This is the second book in this series. I believe I read the first book not too long ago (but am too lazy to go back and look...on the cover. It didn't make sense for the book until about three-quarters of the way through it. Now I get it though. I'm hoping to pick up the sequel this weekend and get right to it.
Just completed # 42 'The Grave Maurice' by Martha Grimes. First in the series that wasn't a reread. Not really impressed, but didn't hate it either. Anyway, I am too tired to analyse my indifference...to a good day's sleep. The status of the other books I'm reading hasn't changed- see my last post. Starting on 'The Winds of Change' by Martha Grimes tonight, if I manage to keep my eyes open
Hey there friends :) So, after several hours of travel, I got to Oakland safely. The trip wasn't actually too bad, and I met this really nice girl on the bus/train (she was on my bus but I didn't really...a lot of the monsters and dangers he uses before the characters do). We have internet here, so yay for that. I'll probably write again some time this week. Probably after I read Interview. ~Katrina
From My 50 Books thread: I had no idea YA fiction could be like this. It sure as hell beats Go Ask Alice. The whole time I read this, all two days it took me to beat down 443 pages of drugs and sex...huge long adventure. More of a tragedy, but still an adventure. And you could really see the pain and loss and the horrible waste of time and life when it concluded. And just a little bit of hope
37. The Holmes-Dracula File by Fred Saberhagen (249 pages) 38. The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh (104 pages) (re-read) 39. 'Tis Pity She's a Whore by John Ford (95 pages) 40. The Thin Man by Dashiell...pages) The Holmes-Dracula File was crack of the highest degree. DUDE. Heee. A good month for book reading, I think. There was lots of laughter, film noir language, plays, crack, and goodness. *nods
I have just completed #41 ' The Blue Last' by Martha Grimes It's the last book in the series I have read previously; from now on it's virgin territory for me. The reason for this is that I had assumed... and am still enjoying ' Jane Austen: A Life ' (not rushing this one), still plodding through ' Book With No Name ' (sigh), and still avoiding 'Walden ' ( I will get there eventually, pwomise).
I'm still doing the 50 bookchallenge, but since I'm only editing the first post, my progress won't show up unless I make a seperate entry. I might do that next time, but anyway, the entry is in my memories...seven books. I'm entering into series that I never would have picked up before. Thank goodness Vromans had a sale! Anwyay, that's all for now. Lightning Thief is next. Happy Readings! ~Katrin
1 - The Mirador by Sarah Monette 5/5 2 - Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale 4/5 3 - Transformation by Carol Berg 4.5/5 4 - The Phoenix by Ruth Sims 4/5 5 - I Am America (And So Can You!) ...both awesome. The last few shorter ones aren't nearly as good, and for those I take away one point. But still quite a good read, and one I've been meaning to get to for a very, very long time
I have just finished another reread in the Richard Jury series: #40 'The Lamorna Wink' by Martha Grimes 40 down, 10 more to go for this year! As I am now determined to finish the entire Richard Jury...Blue Las t' tomorrow. I am still reading 'Jane Austen: A Life' (enjoying it), ' Walden ' (avoiding it), and 'Book With No Name' (loathing it, but determined to slowly work my way through it).
This morning before work I finished #39 'Red Dragon' by Thomas Harris I read this book half a lifetime ago, and thought that I'd hate it now, no longer being young and easily scared, and having seen... Still procrastinating on ' Walden ', and forcing myself to read 'The Book With No Name' . I don't know whether it will be less painful in small increments or to just get it over and done with.
