I polished up the union to a nice shine, figured out how to best use the O-ring (on top of the bulb flare, rather than under the acrylic base), and put a plastic chair foot on the bottom of the cane so that I wouldn't scratch anyone's floor. Had I time to experiment more, a metal band or foot on the bottom would have looked really...
