I just noticed that the LJ group for Aero Garden users was gone, funny I never got a notice from LJ that it had been deleted. I intended to post some information about cleaning an Aero Garden. I've had...clogging things up when you start the next seed kit. Don't get me wrong, I love all of my AG's, so does Peggy, but they are a bit more work to maintain than AeroGrow mentions in their user manuals
I recently replanted my Aerogarden with "Holiday Herbs", which includes parsley, sage, oregano and thyme. Refer to this post if you have no idea what I'm talking about. Well, a little visitor decided to stop by for a visit, and I captured him under one of the little plastic domes that the sprouts live under until they are old enough to make it on their own. That is a stinkbug, if I'm not too...
...soooo fast. But one thing that Tony pointed out is that you can't really smell them all too much. He said that most of the smells in herbs come from the nutrients in the soil. And since the Aerogarden is hydroponic and uses only water to grow - hardly any smell. So....I wanted to see if the taste was similar. The purple and green basil are strong, but everything else just tastes like grass...
Ever thought about hydroponics? Well I did for about 2 years until I finally got down to it and built one myself. You can watch a short 30 sec. video of my set-up. www.youtube.com/watch Its a nutrient...a lot this winter so I am not starting and vegetables, but by the end of January I will start lettuce, spinach, peppers, and possibly some cucumbers. Stay tuned for pics and updated videos!
The plants are doing fairly well...It has been a little over a week and we have some cute herbs budding..... The chives after a week The chives how they are now.....almost two weeks Purple basisl up front and thyme in the back....doing great, huh!?
Here's a long-overdue picture of my AeroGarden, day 33 (today): From AeroGarden I probably should have taken a picture of it before I trimmed the basil and made caprese. Pretty awesome. I love it! I can hardly wait until it's really producing! I am, however, slightly apprehensive about bringing it to the new place, though... We'll know officially if we got the apartment, tomorrow....
...know what it was! But the company she ordered it from pretty much took her money and kept giving her the run around instead of giving her the goods. But yesterday........ IT ARRIVED!!! An AEROGARDEN! Everytime the commercials come on TV, we always want one! We are so excited. Tony and I put it together last night! YAY! FUN!! This is what it will look like in a few weeks.... We are...
I made camembert. Premier Cru to boot. It looks good so far. At one hour old. I expect them to shrink by another third or so by tomorrow morning. This is the yield of just over one gallon. ...here is Teh Pretty with all three: two tomato plants and one jalapeno. Well, right now there are about twelve in total, but there'll be only three left I think. I'm supposed to snip the smallest ones..
It's just as well that the two Aero Gardens at home were near the end of their cycles, I had to tear one down to clean out an infestation of baby spiders. I came down one morning and grabbed the water...was usable and sent it off with Peggy. In the process, I spotted a couple of spider kids who'd made the leap from the first garden, so out came the vacumn again when I tore down the garden to clean it
