a small self-hating rant

Being anti-oppression is the absolute core of my identity. And yet, it seems like wherever i go, whatever i say, whatever i do, i somehow unintentionally support someone's oppression, by using the "wrong"...i? Language and identity and privilege all twisting around me and encircling me and i don't know how to get through the labyrinth because wherever i stand i'm standing on someone that i shouldn't be

Some words on capitalism (the system?). Part I: the driving questions.

Been consumed in conversations and media about capitalism, economics (and "pop economics", as grace_evelyn has affectionately titled them), anarchism, and the economy. My current book rotation...giving them, or is it simply intellectual masturbation? It is my hope that subsequent entries will delve into some potential answers, or at least start to explain my haphazard string of connections

Ever Upward (My Day in Albany)

Despite being tired from all of my recent travels, I spent yesterday in Albany, participating in Empire State Pride Agenda 's Equality and Justice Day.  I thought about not going.  It was a long trip...next to the lot made the appropriate background). in peace, Michael PS-For those not in the know, the motto of New York State is Excelsior, which translates to "ever upward" or "higher.

teh internets make me really happy today.

So yesterday I made this post about the recent controversy on the feminist blogosphere involving BFP and Amanda Marcotte. Not only did the thread go pretty well, but someone at the end (who had not...more so because the audience that reads that blog is primarily people with a whole bunch of privilege. I just hope they're paying attention. Small victories, definitely. But victories nonetheless

Some more thoughts on gentrification/radical communities in Providence, following a community forum and a really great conversation with my favorite State Rep. from Fox Point: There I was, at this community...are plenty of big, easily identifiable gentrifying forces to fight against. So at least there's that. This conversation about long-term solutions to gentrification remains on the back-burner, though.

Liberation and Oppression

A while back, I decided to do this sermon on the Sunday that fell during Passover. Lo and behold, a few weeks back, the Goddess of the UU Blogosphere, Peacebang , asked for help in her blog in coming...literally—of liberation from bondage in slavery. They are not out in the open, building pyramids or picking cotton, but they are there, millions of them. May they all one day be free.
