I made a friend while biking home yesterday.

...on up the road, I just missed the light to cross a busy street. Sitting there waiting for the light to change, she caught up to me again. I said "Hi" this time, and we chatted a bit: weather, biking, etc. Turns out her name is Michaela and she's thinking about doing an art minor. Finally, the light changes (this is like a 2-minute light), and we're still talking, so I decide I'll just go...

Ride to work in the fog

The fog was thick this morning on my ride to work. The top of my building wasn't visible from as close as three blocks away. I passed a construction site on my way in. Up a story or two off the ground...from the spot he was welding, bright points of heat and light in the cold and the dark of the morning. They twinkled in the gloom like fireflies, vanishing long before they reached the ground.

Am I Hardcore?

Ok, so that was my first ride in some kind of snow. It's wasn't the best thing ever (imagine having your face, hands and front of your legs doused with water barely above the freezing point, then hanging...factor of the precipitation. My gloves are not nearly resistant enough to wind and water, I'll have to see to that. And I still have to go to the bike shop before the end of the month for a free tune up

I Like Bike

...given them for free. Even so, I'll probably be making a donation to the Washington Area Bicyclist Association to support their advocacy efforts. Washington DC has made greater improvements in their biking infrastructure than any other city in the US. Pittsburgh has a long way to go but if DC can do it, we can do it. Tomorrow I'm going to stop by the Bike Pgh offices to share the buttons.  ...

Panhandle Trail

I went riding on the Panhandle Trail yesterday. For those who don't know, the Panhandle follows the former Pennsylvania Railroad corridor for the 30 miles between Weirton and Walker's Mill. I had ridden...mile bike trail network. Anyway, after lunch, I rode back having taken off my jacket and riding in only a t-shirt. The sky was still blue and the temperature had risen into the balmy 50s.

Xtracycle + Passenger = WIN!

Today transversely and I had a bunch of packages to mail off, some of which were pretty large. Fortunately, Madeleine, my Xtracycle , was unfazed; I simply let out the panniers a big and they...just before a bottleneck with a stone barrier and a sharp turn. The grins on people's faces when we went riding by, laughing and whooping, were priceless. It was awesome . I can't wait to do it again

well that didn't quite work out...

... If i can keep that up, I can make it to Sabino in about an hour (it's about 16 miles... with an uphill section, so at this point, realistically, about an hour and a half) It was kind of not the best day for biking anyway, it's pretty windy:-p Riding into a stiff headwind makes it that much harder, haha. And now i'm ready to get to work on Empire stuff Today will be a different sort of workday

I rediscovered my bike today.   That sounds overly dramatic, but it really was how I felt about it. I promise, I won't give you some sappy cutscene about how I fell in love with it, and me and my...myself. I spent 3 hours at the bookstore, and then biked all the way home. (I must confess I walked up a couple hills). But it was good. I was happy with myself, for the first time in a long time.
