Joe's Smiles!

Whoa! Almost forgot this today! Luckily my good friend firedew1 reminded me. Fandom GF got my back! ;) We were on the topic of ChiCon, so since the smiles from season 4 went over so well, I thought some smiles from ChiCon might too. Enjoy!

Gen Con Highlights - Day 2

The Seven Pits of Sezrekan This was the first "Funnel Tournament" for Dungeon Crawl Classics . The idea was that you stayed in until your character died, and the next person in line got to jump in...for a friend, but I waited too long and it sold out. (The game seemed to be a huge hit, which is promising.) However, I did manage to snag the Adventure Time variant of Munchkin for another friend...

Gen Con Highlights - Day 1

A different sort of convention This was my first Gen Con, and there was a lot to learn. First of all, it was huge! Only Otakon compares in size, and I'm pretty sure Gen Con is bigger, since it appeared...(such as Nodens being drawn to disabled veterans). They don't yet have a date set for the Kickstarter, as they're still focusing on fiction anthologies and playtesting. But it should be "pretty soon".

There and Back Again

We made the trip to Montana and to Spocon without terrible incident. And by that, I mean the boy was relatively okay most of the trip. Some nausea and vomiting, but he made it through. I was proud of... May have those. And you’ll notice that the website is slightly updated with Diamond City Magic on the menu bar. Originally published at www.dianapfrancis.com . Here for the Horror

...while the people around us discussed Comic-Con. I've only been to a comic convention once in my life, and it was a fairly small one in Philadelphia. While I'd certainly be interested in the larger conventions, I have to suspect that my fear of crowds and hatred of waiting would get in the way. From what I hear, they're incredibly crowded, and so many people want to attend the events that they have...

Shopping - or how did that get there?

Humph. Apart from a 'Stark Industries' Tee (Howard era) and some earrings based on Captain America's shield, two Loncon beer 'glasses' and a couple of mugs with wolves on them, I seem to have acquired a Micro Drone plus camera. How did that happen? Well, it was that or a drinking horn and the micro drone is of marginally more use. And more fun.

Gridlock DC

... but it must be locked down tight; I would like to join but can't find it.) There was also a dealer's room, almost 100% fan crafters (no books! It always throws me there are no booksellers at Sherlock conventions) and a social room. The Social room had some freebies, including coloring-book style sheets of Sherlock fan art and games on the table to help break the ice. Yes, there was a round of Sherlock...

[Conventions] A Modest Proposal for Feminism Panels

Proposal: From now on, there will be one token male panelist on all feminist panels. At the beginning, as every panelist is introducing themselves, he says: “Hello, my name is _____ and I do...noises without ever being tempted to mansplain/condespalin or try to tell us how to “fix” things.
