Never using boxed pancake mix again!

...easy! You probably have all the ingredients you need in your pantry already. The pancakes turned out gorgeous! Light and super fluffy, with a crispy golden outside. I wasn't going to make this a cooking post, but I was so impressed that I took a couple pictures. I even ate one! :O Pancakes That Don't Suck (Makes about 4 medium-large pancakes.) Ingredients 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon...

Summer = strawberries!

Another super-simple recipe. This one looks like it takes a lot of work! Strawberry Tart with Vanilla Custard Filling Ingredients: (Dough) 4 ounces cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup butter, softened...is chilled correctly. Golden! 5. Allow shell to cool before adding filling. Once filling is added, chill for at least one hour. Top with fresh strawberry slices. The finished product.

I need to work on my photo skills. :/

One of my favorite things to make because it's quick, easy, and doesn't require a lot of ingredients. Sandy Shortbread Cookies Ingredients: 1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats 1 1/2 cups unbleached...at room temp in an airtight container and they'll be good for a week. Ideas to make them fancy! Dip half the cookie in melted chocolate, or stir some finely chopped, toasted pecans into the dough

another surprise birthday party!

Our night of festivities included homemade ddukbokki (type of spicy Korean rice cake soup), dumplings, strawberry shortcake, éclaires, and red bean fish ice cream. Frying dumplings! I always make my best friend do this, as I'm intimidated by the loud crackling of oil x) She is so kind and obliges me

I hope this okay.

...a bronze color before pulling it off the saucepan. 2. After browning your butter, LET IT COOL COMPLETELY. This is important because we do NOT want hot butter to go with the eggs as they will start cooking. 3. Preheat your oven to 375F degrees, spraying a paper-lined 12 cup muffin or 2 mini muffin tins with nonstick spray. 4. In separate bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and...

Pancetta and Shallots

A few days ago my daughter asked me to to make her my "triple pork": grilled one-inch thick pork chops, with a pocket slit into the side, stuffed with caramelized minced shallots, pancetta and goat...chance to take a picture. I had some leftover pancetta, so tonight I caramelized some more shallots with pancetta and served them over whole wheat toast with a smear of goat cheese. Excellent appetizer

Croquembouche Bakers Challenge

The May 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Cat of Little Miss Cupcake . Cat challenged everyone to make a piece montée, or croquembouche, based on recipes from Peter Kump’s Baking School in Manhattan...final result Probably put too much caramel on it or something something because we all had a hard time plucking it off. It was more like aggressively rip it off and manhandle the whole thing

Shad

Photo: about.com I got some shad filet from my local fishmonger. I cooked it up for dinner tonight: marinate in the fridge for an hour or two with : dashi , soy sauce, sake, rice vinegar, lemon juice, salt, pepper. Then pan fry with olive oil and butter. Reduce the marinade and drizzle over white rice. Ate it all up before I thought about taking a picture.

Summertime, and the livin' is easy

...in the music department (I know them through David, my roommate). I made a tres leches cake, which actually turned out really well, and some homemade guacamole. I think I'm really starting to like cooking and baking more than I used to. I watched the season finale of Grey's Anatomy (AAAAAAH so intense), and I'm excited to see Glee again on Tuesday. I'm really appreciating how this show is still...

birthday cake & marshmallow buttercream flowers

My dearest, most generous and sweet friends threw me a surprise birthday party on Friday night. These beautiful flowers went on a homemade cake they baked me. Such detail and delicate lines! I'm so impressed and totally in love with them all
