Uuuuuuurrh.com

Back in 2003, Monroe Mann (author of The Theatrical Juggernaut ) told me about a website called Myspace. He said that it was the next big thing, especially for bands. He said you could post... So I'm looking for Game of Thrones fan sites, but also fantasy geek sites, RPG sites, and maybe even an M:TG site. (Although I can't visit those. They're worse than Twitter.) Thanks for your help

killing you softly

What defense against the apprehension of loss is at work in the blithe way in which we accept deaths caused by military means with a shrug or with self-righteousness or with clear vindictiveness? To what...and the possibility that our ideals themselves are inadequate and provisional. This entry was composed @Dreamwidth. Feel free to comment either here or there. one of those things

...with not acknowledging female sexuality, etc. (the effects of which may still be felt in at least the less metropolitan areas of the country), whereas China, while having a historically misogynistic culture, high schools that don't allow students to date, and college students who are still aghast at any suggestions of sex or nudity, celebrates family like a LOT, but things like this still strike me...

A Weapon for All Occasions: Dracon beam versus shredder

...that. So there’s a slightly more complex reason than ‘because all Yeerks just like causing pain’ that might explain it. One which suggests something about the Dracon beam’s place in culture as well. (I’m fascinated by the differences in the ways we view, say, crossbows and longbows, and the different cachets attached to them, so this is fun for me.) Or maybe the Andalites are exaggerating...

Notes on the Homeworld: Where it all began

...times in discussion before (and really a list this long is gonna need its own post) but also I want a general pool of ideas for myself and others. So, here is a list of Stuff Yeerks Would Need a Culture to Deal With, or ‘how they got that hyper-sophisticated neural net in the first place’. I think the description of the Yeerk homeworld as all stagnant pools and lifeless plains with a few...

The screeching. The unending, eternal screeching.

The crickets still haven't shut up. ;-; In more interesting news, just got through a second chapter of A People's History of the United States . TYSM for the recommendation,  brewsternorth   and  yunghustlaz   - this book is awesome (if somewhat bile-aggravating and depressing). Definitely going to buy a real copy.

individualism! woo...

"Is America in any continuity with its original self-understanding as a society governed with the consent of its members, as a democratic republic, still possible in the face of the realities of the late...was what drove us in this direction. He saw us as, of all peoples in the world, the ones most concerned with material comfort and economic advancement." -Robert Bellah, UC Santa Barbara lecture, 198
