Casino Royale: 3-disc Collector's Edition

film was released in Nov 2006, dvd released in Oct 2008, purchased by me in Oct 2008 .. ye olde amazon link .. The curious thing about the Bond movies is that they have been a staple of my childhood...it . What about the airport scene? The grooming of Craig as Bond? I could go on and on. Glee Factor : Shaken, yes. It was originally going to be a 10, but then I watched the extras. (9 out of 10

OH NO I DIDN'T!!!

...to put my hair up and figured, if he was still by the elevators I would move into Operation Staircase. But no; for all the times the elevators are excruciatingly slow, he was gone. Needless to say, I've been on a high ever since. [Okay, so I got kind of caught up in the narrative moment with this one, but anything superfluous is strictly minimal.] Not bad for the first day of espionage, eh?!?

Oooh, My Pledges Paid Off!

Glen Weldon has a nice little piece up on the "Monkey See" blog at the NPR site in praise of Tara Chace (the fictional one, not the real-life one, though certainly the real-life one deserves praise all...sharing. I'm hard-pressed to think of a sadder sound than that of my bride, my son, and my daughter all bark-coughing in unison. It's a symphony of misery, and Delsym seems to provide little relief

High altitude balloons, air tanks, & radar

Basically the story is set in a world with roughly present day technology. There is an airbase located on an island not too far away from the coast, while the coast itself is mostly unclaimed for various... How good are the pictures likely to be, assuming of course that they have access to military grade cameras, and other passive sensor equipment (with the caveat that it has to fit aboard the balloon)

The Mystery of Olga Chekhova

...up gossip to find out what they really think, regardless of the official government attitudes and official proclamations. Chekhova had a status as a celebrity in Nazi Germany and would get invited to parties when she would meet the cream of the Nazi Party. She did not need an extended espionage network nor did she trade industrial or strategic secrets. Just reported what the top Nazis said.

Winners and losers

Rogue Male

Pretty neat little 1st-person crime/espionage novel that successfully uses the equivocating narrator trick. A British great-white-hunter type in the 1930s stalks a European dictator "just to see if he can", not to, like, pull the trigger or anything. And just when he gets the guy in his cross hairs, he's caught by the stand-in Gestapo, tortured, and thrown off a cliff, made to look like an accidental...
