'tis the season

I noticed the buds on the Christmas cactus a week or two ago and they looked rather large for starting flowering around Thanksgiving.  Indeed, the first one has now opened up. It's really recovered... so haven't chomped away the last 1/6th or so of long leaf chains.  The flower is on one of the short, newly regrown ones.  Plenty more are coming, the second should be open in another day or two.

toothed leaves or smooth?

My favorite recently-learned bit of trivia: Trees typically have smooth or toothy leaves. The cooler the climate, the higher the percentage of trees with toothed leaves will be. What's something nifty you learned recently?

Guess what's cooking?

The weather is crisp and the there is a serious bite in the air. The leaves are passed the glorious stage and moving on to leather brown and rich golds. And the apple tree is finally all harvested. ...up to a good 6-8 inches. As it is, it cleared over night and we woke to just as dusting and now the sky is bright and sunny and we're on the way to a Halloween of 60's, just right for fun. Kubiando

Garden talk

For once I have something to write about, though there won't be much more for a while. We spent the weekend clearing up all the frost-bitten vegetables - chucking the pots of tomatoes and cucumbers, pulling...in the perennial border, so hopefully it isn't exhausted. I also seem to have lost one - I put a Limona in the border too, but I couldn't find it again when taking stuff in for their dormancy period

At Last! A Chance to Post!

...to catch up on my writing (actually, I'm taking time away from my busy laundering schedule, oh well!), and to let you know, Gentle Reader, just what we've been up to. We've been working a lot in the garden.  Pulling up exhausted plants, testing pH content, re-arranging soil, setting in the cold frames--all of this has taken far more time (and energy!) than Lachlan and I had anticipated--standard operating...

End of Midterms

I wrote my last midterm of the term this morning. Overall it is has been a good midterm season; but this last one was, as we say, sadtimes. I think I'll just scrape enough marks together to pass. I...to call the toll-free number and find out if I need to be tested. This may mean no blood donation tonight. Halloween party Friday night, trip to Guelph on Saturday....assuming I get OS finished....

Sleep? what is that?

I got very little sleep last night so I think that there will be a definite catch up nap this afternoon. Rain and high winds last night. Plant Life

It's taking over. Brought in the two Jasmine vines since it may snow tonight. They're in for the winter unless we get some crazy 80 deg. December day. They're in the kitchen in front of the only window...there. Speaking of work, I'm off to bed. Tomorrow is the first day I don't need to be there at 5 am, so it'll be nice to actually get some sleep tonight. With my luck, I'll probably wake up anyway
