I guess the Euros WERE all that... Curlin's race wasn't all that bad. Rather than not handling the surface, I thought he was moved too early, and also may have been heading for a sub-par performance after...just off the 210, so it's extremely convenient to stop by and pick up a consolatory bottle of Jameson's, Knob Creek or Laphroaig on the way home, should one need consolation (and when doesn't one)
1. Shakis (Alan Garcia, Kiaran McLaughlin) 10-1 The old veteran is back for another go. It’s hard not to admire the 8 year old, who always puts in an honest effort and competes with the best. Most...might take those two with Midnight Lute, because I have faith in Baffert and would like to see him repeat. I might also consider Street Boss. However, more often than not I am WAY off in the Sprint
Is the best horse in the world. I have a weird reaction to her races. I watch her Spanish-walking to the post, this cute displacement behavior that she does instead of jigging or shying or tossing her...or the heat: the same thing happened last year. I don't think Casino Drive can hit the board in the Classic after being laid off all summer. Too bad. I hope he does give a good account of himself
wow, i've posted a lot in the last, day or two... anyway, quick update on the breeder's cup 2008... filly and mare turf 1 1/4 mile: winner was the gray filly Forever Together. woot!! Ladies' Classic... Four years old, and she's winning with the style, class and grace that should put her in for Horse of the Year. and...rangers are on. I'll get back to y'all on that. keep your fingers crossed. xxxN
First, hooray for the Keeneland bias! Both Forever Together and Dream Empress put on great shows. I wonder if this means I need to bet Thorn Song tomorrow. I'm already putting some money on Square Eddie...in the rain. I'm still working on my handicapping for tomorrow's races. Between my Keeneland winnings and today, if I don't win another bet I will at the very least break even. Which is awesome
So, I'm debating whether or not to sign up for NaNoWriMo this year. I've never participated before as I've never really had time due to school and I've never really had a solid idea what to actually...as I hate the change, I can't really do anything about it. And it's almost time for the first race, so I'll put aside my ire for now and enjoy watching the crème de la crème of the racing compete
Alysheba returning to US. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why do they have to do his welcome party on Friday? Oh well. Just means I go Saturday.
We had an interesting message from Sean, a work colleague of Steph's, asking if we wanted to go to the races. First order of the day was a quick wardrobe crisis. This is a very British problem: neither... bedside tables, chests of drawers, a rug and an ironing board later and my trolley looked like this: That lot arrives tomorrow and good job I have got the screwdriver handy to put it all together!
On Saturday, we went apple picking at Russell Orchards in Ipswich. You take a tractor-pulled hay wagon to get to the orchard: Proof that I did indeed pick an apple. I am making that strange face...his stud value, it is certainly career-ending. He really did do some incredible things as a racehorse and it's sad not to get to see what he'll do next. I hope his feet problems aren't genetic...
