So I got on a horse today for the first time in 8 or 9 months. All my confusion about where I wanted to be in the world just meltedaway. I want to be here, with the horses. Duh.
Yesterday was a most satisfactory day. We took the ponies out for a slightly longer than average adventure in the autumn sun and it was absolutely gorgeous. Small pony takes the lead through some... This is our slightly quirky friend Gem, who I'm sure I have mentioned enough that she is vaguely familliar: This is Toffee, a lovely young Section D who moved to the yard relatively recently:
...house, it is rarely a good thing when the phone rings before 8:30 am on a Sunday. This morning my trainer D called to say that Lily was down in her stall when she went out to feed breakfast to the horses, and that she had to beat Lily to get her to stand. She led Lily out to the observation paddock and Lily went down again. D had already called the vet’s paging service and wanted me at the barn...

...a syringe full of euthanasia solution instead of lopping shears. We all felt bad about it, but the general feeling was more practical than emotional, except for me. Barb, Kevin and the granddaughter went off to dish up feed for the horses and I had a little lie-down on the picnic table. The sky was still so beautiful, the clouds still so beautiful, the breeze still so beautiful. I felt very ugly.
Nancy's coming into town for the weekend and didn't tell me! :( I got a call about her church's rummage sale-- so I'll be up at that for a few hours tomorrow. Then Erika's wedding party in the afternoon...we didn't end on too bad of a note-- took her out again to the side of the road to graze and came back when they workers stopped. Went over there, snorted at the machinery and then back into her stall
