When I talked about giant microbes at happy hour, my CEO called me disturbed, but in a good way.

I think I just had the equivalent of a tea party to introduce my new giant microbes to my old ones. I named my two swine flus H1 and N1. H1 is coming to work and hopefully I will find a place for N1...Also, the big ones really like getting petri dishes. It makes them happy to multiply. I don't yet have the giant sized bovine spongiform encephalopathy. I'm just saying. (21 shopping days til my bday.

Motherfucking SQUEE!!!

Nothing definite yet, but I may have a chance to do my fieldwork project with an adjunct professor who is overseeing the H1N1 vaccination program for the fall. Also, said professor is the former NJ Commissioner...approval. *Or possibly acting Commissioner. I thought he was a full one but google is only turning up the Acting title. ETA: Aha, I thought I had a swine flu icon lurking somewhere on my hard drive

Here's an update: -Jersey's temp rose to 100.2, but nothing to worry about yet -The B.O. admitted that the vet never said it was a virus, and that it's just her personal...getting tubed tomorrow morning when the vet gets here. Keep throwing ideas at me ladies, and send us your good thoughts. (Previous post/information posted earlier this evening) *edited to add tag

Virus in barn horses...

My vet is coming out tomorrow morning, but I'd still like to know what you ladies think: Last week one of my B.O.'s horses came down with something. He wouldn't drink or eat his grain, but did munch...bother you guys with a novel here, but I figured the more brains to pick the better. Any similar situations? Is there anything else I could do to make Jersey comfortable? She's inside for the night.

EHV-1 and its consequences

Hello all, I was just browsing the Daily Racing Form online, and saw an article that talked about a 5 year colt who had to be euthanized because he displayed signs of having EHV-1. I'll post the first...neurological problems yet. Opinions and discussion is more than welcome! . ETA: Mods, could we possibly add an "EHV-1" tag, seeing as I (personally) have noticed a few posts about it recently?

Confirmed Rabies case in Southeast US

So I dont post routinely on here but I wanted to pass along some information.  This week at work (I work as a tech at the vet school in TN) we had a depressed horse come in for evaluation. While we were...show it can and will happen.  Talk about scary stuff!! (I am also worried I will have to get post-exposure vaccines myself! I am vaccinated for rabies, but that just means you get less shots later!
