Progress has happened. I did a sample bit to figure out stitch length and width, and how to do the couched leather stuff. Looking at pictures of the originals, the stitching is very fine and tight. So... The real stuff is much shinier, but the fake stuff doesn't look bad once on. That's a positive. So, once that was figured out, I began on the stitching proper. Watch this space...

I have cut out my squares, and begun the interesting process of cutting out the patterns. I've done two and a half pairs so far, and screwed up one, so I will need to buy some more black fabric. Since...down. The gilt-leather couching next, with the pieces still separate. Finally I'll put the roundels back in their squares. After I've appliqued the edges, I will finally assemble everything.

There are 6 extant 'whole' intarsia covers, plus one fragment, two cushions and then the one that we have pictures off that became scouring rags. They all vary slightly in size, but are longer one way than the others. The motifs are arranged 4x3, 6x4 or even 3x3, always in pairs but turned in different directions. The motifs are usually symbols of Christ or Mary; lion, deer, phoenix, pelican, unicorn...

Over the weekend I attended the Kingdom A&S, as I also had a pouch for a competition "A Decorated Bag or Pouch".  This was the pouch I did using the intarsia method  (the design is cut out of the fabric and a contrasting piece of fabric inserted into the gap).  This was the first time that I tried this method and was a tad worried about doing it.  It came out far better than what I expected, not to...

Today was a quiet day, the landlord was here fixing the clogged system, so hopefully things will be running more smoothly for a long time. ...to knitting it. The first thing I didn't like was the yarn. It's called Titan 100% acrylic ultra soft. Ugh! It was so stiff and heavy it hurt my hands. The second thing I didn't like was doing intarsia. I quickly tired of all those tangled threads. The third thing I didn't like was sewing all the pieces together. It's a top-down raglan so why couldn't it be worked in one piece. Even the collar...

At last my Asian style sweater is complete! Since I have friends who have recently moved to our visited China, I figured it was about time to dig out this pattern that I've had for years. I must say, I... on to happier things! I also just finished a suede flogger using the pattern found in Naughty Needles . Not too much knitting involved per say, but still a lot of fun. ...and I've only just gotten around to it. It's my first pattern with a chart, so I had to visit knittingHelp.com for help with 2-color knitting. After I watched the videos on the stranding method and intarsia, I decided to go with intarsia. It didn't take very long to figure out (I lie. It took about 4 tries to get past the third row.
