A few months ago Tor.com opened a limited time offer of free eBooks, including the Kindle-edible format of Mobipocket, and I noted that I would be watching the skies for new books in the Kindle store...that’s very, very off.

I only just figured out, while sitting here working on my Boalian assignment, that one of my new favourite authors, John Scalzi, is published by TOR. TOR is a publishing company that specialises in "spec...questions, and the guy was fairly bad at telling stories so it felt like a bit of a waste of time. If I had realised before that lecture that TOR published Scalzi, I would have had a lot more to ask him
People in the FACT reading group had said "Old Man's War" is like Heinlein with serial numbers filed off. I have read some Heinlein, but perhaps the wrong novels, because I found no similarity between... being human is by default superior to any other mode of existence. Jane's predicament seemed similarly disingenuous. Regardless, "Old Man's War" is a fun read, if you don't expect much depth from it
A perfect day for riding, but I had to work at the 'berry all day. The days are too short now to get in a decent ride in the evening. Bah! I thought I'd ride to the 'berry and back tomorrow instead of...enjoying Diaries 1969-1979 The Python Year by Michael Palin. It's also nice to have new episodes of Bones, House and Big Bang Theory . Now I should go play with Goodreads some more.
Zoë's Tale Writer: John Scalzi Genre: Science Fiction Pages: 330 (ARC) How thrilled was I when LibraryThing offered this book as part of their Early Reviewers program? So thrilled? Did I bounce...of profanity. Although my new favorite word is now "smartassery." Thanks for that, Scalzi! Next up: Book: The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner Graphic Novel: V for Vendetta by Alan Moor

It's remarkably civilised of ITV to put all their halfway-watchable shows in the same 90 minute block. Secret Diary of a Call Girl was always borderline, and now they're deviating from the book even...cuts, I fear that his party is just too far away from anything I believe nowadays for me to vote for them in good conscience. On the other hand, he's dead right about the zombies and the Andrex puppy
The Android's Dream Writer: John Scalzi Genre: Science Fiction Pages: 396 If John Scalzi writes it, it stands to reason I'll read it. So of course I picked up The Android's Dream once it was... (now you know what my next Dick/Scalzi combo's going to be) is released next year, I can buy the hardcover. Next up: Book: The Host by Stephenie Meyer Graphic Novel: V for Vendetta by Alan Moor
From Tokyomango: REAL! LIVE! POKEMON! *** Two gems from Whatever - Scalzi looks back on some of his older entries. Here, he tries to console one of his books about not being reviewed. In this... " -"What the fuck is this shit?!" Yeah. Uh. I was pretty profane tonight, even for my normal heathen standards of profanity. -Reileen we're the terror of the skies, but a danger to ourselves
