I'm x-posting this from my own journal in hopes that it will be informative to other folks in this group. My beloved kitty, who is 14 years old, has just being diagnosed with the renal (kidney) failure...better armed with the knowledge about this issue. It is apparently a very common issue in cats, particularly since the dry kibble diet puts extra strain on their kidneys throughout their life.

I'm not entirely sure what a good way to say this is, so I'm just gonna go out and say it - Koga took me to the hospital this afternoon. The healer says I have kidney failure. So - they're gonna keep...rope you into a cheering-me-up-party because Freida said she would have one for me tonight but, what with my being here, that's unlikely. ... Oh, and Quinn? Dari says hi. In, uh, not so many words

 My old doctor is gone now -_- I'm going to miss her sooo much. She was great fun to talk to and she seemed genuinely concerned. I'm stuck with a new doctor now, a Dr. Vu. My nerves were in over-drive...left the doctors office feeling hopeless. My grandma had kidney failure. It is partially the reason why she died. I'm scared shitless and I feel helpless. This is probably my lowest point recently.

Tommy's not doing well. His back legs aren't working very well so he can't make it to the litter box. He jumps off the bed only to collapse and then just pees on the floor. He's so weak. His eyes and nose...tomorrow so he won't suffer anymore and he'll be able to see Missy again. Tom and Howie cuddling. Howie's going to be the only old cat after this. I can't help but think when he'll go now. :

My cat Tom is going into kidney failure... My dad took him to the vet today and we have to wait for the blood tests to see how bad it is. He may need to get IV fluids like Missy did. :(

UPDATE 9 p.m.: smartycat   wrote in breedists_no  that the recall is being expanded.   60 million containers...says "NOT FOR RELEASE OVER US NEWSWIRE SERVICES," even though the recall is about petfood produced in America. ------ update (6 p.m.): The Washington Post has covered this story , too.    

Diabetes sucks. Really sucks... I was talking to my mom tonight and she broke some bad news - her kidneys are shutting down as a side complication of diabetes. She said that the doctors have caught it...her. However, she's always been there when I really need her...but what's going to happen now? If her health gets any worse she won't be able to be there for me anymore. Who will I turn to? Gods...
