In which my job is occasionally totally awesome: - I picked up a phone call this morning and the man on the other end said, "I'm trying to find out how to spell something. Y'know those worms that live...nerdiest person in the room and hell, I just got paid to talk about Star Trek novels. Overall win. Three awesome things and we've only been open for less than an hour. Today is pretty damned good
Things that are irritating today: - 9 o'clock financial meetings are of the devil. Even if the main gist of the meeting was "Things look better! Hurrah!" - Ma'am, I realize that you are trying to give...people complimented my socks-in-progress, the weather is perfect (overcast and warm but breezy), and those were the only three annoying people I've been in contact with today. Overall, I am winning
I am back from Spokane! Well, okay, I've been back since last night but I am posting now. It was a lovely weekend. Alas that it is now over. Apparently, we have painted the entryway to the Kingston Community...wearing my socks but alas, no one ever sees them. It's really quite thrilling to be able to show off my handiwork, especially as I am a pretty damned badass crocheter. 8) And that is my day thus far
So, remember the whole stupid fucking holiday time fiasco that happened around the 4th? Guess what - turns out my boss was wrong about it again and somehow (on her instructions) I ended up taking too...to me. Which is what having a boss is fucking for . Four day weekend. After 5 o'clock today, I don't have to think about any of this ridiculousness for four days. I am frelling well counting down
Today, a woman came into the children's library, returned a book , and proceeded to complain about it. It was a book of fairy tales and nursery rhymes and she wanted to let us know that she would not...eaten or to trick the wolf herself. **I will admit that I am assuming, from her race and accent, that she grew up in this country. That may, of course, be a wholly inaccurate assumption on my part.
Today's Wacky Library Phonecall: Me: Kingston Library, this is Sara. How may I help you? Patron: ::speaking in a slow, dreamy voice:: I'm sitting in the Bainbridge library checking my email and I have...them one more time? Patron: ::very long pause:: Oh, they're right here. I have them. Me: ... Patron: Can I turn them in at Bainbridge? Me: ...yes. I get all the weird phone calls, I swear to god
One of the best things about working at the library is those times when a patron you've never seen before comes in and you get to connect with that person immediately, just because they've asked you for...watching people's faces light up when you tell them how to get just the book they want. And it is always lovely to meet a fellow fan. First patron of the day. I'm going to be smiling about that for hours
Again with the stupid holiday time thing. See, the first way my boss figured out how much flex time I had to take this pay period, it was enough so that I was going to take today off. That was last week...this point. I just want some frelling consistency. And a little more advance warning if my schedule's going to change. This is frelling ridiculous and I am going to have to kill everyone involved
Things of lately: - I really thought we had figured out the damned holiday time situation last week but it turns out that I was wrong. The thing my boss and I had figured out apparently no longer works...to Knit in Order to Do. I am making a cable-y sweater. It is bright red and very pretty. So go me. In balance, the good things of today are far outweighing the annoying things. Therefore, I win
