...most common protections used in the Greco-Roman world as protection against such fearful things as curses and the evil eye; which were seen as very real by most of its inhabitants. Amulets were often made of cheap materials, but precious stones were believed to have special efficacy. Many discovered thousands of carved gems clearly had a magical rather than an ornamental function. Read more ...
So... instead of paying £100 for an exact replica of rose's jacket (like the Oasis one did recently... and I'd found it when i was at £1... boo), i've decided to utilize my sewing skillz and make my own..... but i want the high-contrast knit fabric for winter coats & bomber jackets. her doomsday jacket would be appraoched in the same manner... from what i can tell, that's blue-leather based, as well?
In case anyone is interested in a fast Tennant attire, this guy seems to be a decent choice: http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Doctor-Who-David-Tennant-Wool-Coat-Cosplay-c323_W0QQitemZ290261146572QQihZ019QQcategoryZ57988QQcmdZViewItem... He makes both the suit and coat, although the coat, in this case, is wool and not suede like i've heard it to be in actuality. It looks like it will work just fine, though
I made the fabric shopping rounds yesterday, first Jo-Ann, then SR Harris, then Treadle. I was looking for my Halloween costume fabric and a few other things. Found nothing at Jo-Ann; not too surprising... but dupioni just comes in so many more colors! I started the petticoat for my Halloween costume yesterday. I need to do this quickly (but then, when don't I?) because I only have a couple weeks
Hey everyone. So I finally got the hoodie in and it is a bit darker than the pictures show. I’ve also gone ahead and taken some pictures of the diesel belt that I have that is a close match to the season...it on ebay? I know it has an anime character and I highly suspect that it was bought at the Topshop. I swear at some point I'll take some official cosplay pictures with the clothes.
I've been trying to figure out what sort of pants Rose is wearing for her return episodes in season 4. I'm thinking they're black stretch jeans... but it's real hard to tell. They're tight-fitting anyway. this is the best pic i've been able to come up with. http://bp1.blogger.com/_GT0-g5YtYTw/SGt-RhaWFeI/AAAAAAAACcQ/uXGpR03w4fA/s1600-h/journeys_end_pic13.jpg any thoughts?
Just checking to see what people are doing for their different layers. I've been using one layer fashion fabric, gluebasted to a tight cotton plain woven layer. I treat this as one layer, and use a layer of coutil for what could be called a lining layer. I sew bone casings through these three layers, instead of using premade bone casings.
Does anyone know a good US site that sells continuous coated spring steel boning (1/4 and 1/2 inch)? I've been looking for months and it seems like they only sell it in the UK, which once you tack on shipping...puts it out of my price range. I know it's possible- I've seen it in costume shops all over the country. Where are they getting it from? (And if I were smart, I would have asked when I worked there...
Sort-of bad news: My buttons for the riding habit came on Friday, and they're so small!! They're teeny. They're like doll buttons. They were supposed to be 1/2", but they are barely larger than 3/8"...But finally, I have them! They're Irish polkas, of course! The only way to polka. Irish polkas leap; German polkas lump. And I think I could live quite happily in a Universe entirely free of tubas
