Got to class tonight, MIG welding and a demo on plasma cutting (gonna give that a shot next week) and blacksmithing. The blacksmithing bits were very basic, but at least I now know how to run the trench...steel. I am going to take the rosebud (6 hole gas torch tip) to lay fire on it to patina the scale (think of a gun bluing effect). My instructor stopped by near the end and seemed impressed.
(Subject phrase has been running through my mind since breakfast, which was indeed nachos.) Bill is in Seattlethis weekend for a class being taught by Charles Lewton-Brain , who is a person from whom...to work again. It worked briefly, now I think it's confused because it's connected to the computer through too many splices. Perhaps the closet cleaning will rectify that situation. Best get on that
tugrik asked me to take a screenshot of what I was doing yesterday and to post it, so here it is. This is a screenshot of the Aperature science logo I'm designing to replace the Hyundai logo on a friend's car. I'm designing it in tkCAD, which is a CAD program I wrote for doing 2.5D design work for CNC milling.
One of the first major projects that a new small-scale metalworker with a mill is supposed to take on, almost like a rite-of-passage, is to build a clock. I mean machining the gears and everything. This...understanding a lot. That hasn't stopped folks from building mechanisms based off the best known evidence so far. It just makes them somewhat speculative. But someday... I wanna build That

Ideas and concepts are looking for an outlet, and the physical medium of metalworking art is gnawing at me to engage it. I cannot...
...a boring bar. Also, I'm learning how to make very accurate measurements, but I still need the proper tools. Hopefully, after Christmas, I can pick some up. I've been informed that Santa has some metalworkinggoodies for me, so I'm waiting patiently. In the meantime, I bought some calipers so I can transfer measurements. My goal is to cut two pieces of metal to the same diameter, at least to within...
I've registered for two metalworking classes at Pratt , running January to March, Blacksmithing I and Welding I. The cool thing is I will get easy access to forge and studiospace, during and after the courses so I don't have to deal with trying to secure studio time privately. I think I'll also have more access to tools without having to buy everything I need upfront. Recently, I took the MBTI/Keirsey...
