Really interesting, darkly amusing and sharply written, The Yiddish Policemen's Union asks what would have happened if a plan proposed to Roosevelt in 1939 had been accepted: if millions of Jewish people...it would have benefited from a little pruning and a lot more subtlety. His female character(s) are better in this, also, than in Kavalier and Clay , but I think they could do with some extra attention

This is a sprawling epic of a book, and one which I thought shared some of the flaws and the virtues of the comics with which it was so concerned: Chabon is capable of creating beautifully described, vivid... though... I'm still not sure whether Chabon just ran out of steam, or whether it was patterned on the nature of comic books themselves—there's never quite an ending, there's always room for a sequel
*** i tried to write a proper review for 'high fidelity', but my brain is being a fart today, so we'll make this brief: liked the movie well enough when i first saw it, but didn't fall in love with...that reads more like the lead character's talking to you, rather than telling you a story). will certainly check out more of his stuff, but not any time soon. *** and now, i zone out. - wayne ree
#63 Cold Skin by Albert Sánchez Piñol (translated by Cheryl Leah Morgan) Our narrator arrives on a tiny Antarctic island to act as a weather monitor only to discover it is besieged by an unknown amphibious...- and I haven't seen this mentioned much - a work of magical realism. Abigail Nussbaum has some very interestingcomments on the plausibilty of the setting and other possible flaws in the novel here
The Yiddish Policeman's Union Writer: Michael Chabon Genre: Fiction Pages: 411 With all of the hype this book got, it's no wonder that I decided to give it a go. I'd heard loads about it long before... As far as Hugo winners go, this is definitely one of the finer crafted Novels I've read. Book: Dragonforge: A Novel of the Dragon Age by James Maxey Graphic Novel: V for Vendetta by Alan Moor
Non-fiction writers think the fictioneers have the easy jobs; after all, in non-fiction, you have to figure out how to portray what happened in an engaging manner, and almost everything you write...

After all that waiting, I finally got my iPhone. I waited until my 2 year contract with Sprint expired, and so now here I am starting fresh with a 2 year contract with AT&T. I got the 16 GB white phone...as well. Google certainly has the ability to define words by typing in "define" then a colon and then the word you would want defined. So much for the iPhone, now I am going to my yoga class
When I first moved to California in 2000 I was captivated by these stunning but dangerous looking trees and spent years trying to figure out what they were called. This tree has a trunk which is covered...Summerland by Michael Chabon. So I'm wondering if they are the inspiration for the fictional flora. This picture isn't that good, but I'll try to get some better images of the trees on campus today.
