Happy New Year, folks. I know it's the New Year, because I've caught my annual New Year's horrible throat cold. I might pull a half day today, because I feel like pure death. But I'm psyched in a mild...it's not even done yet. Promising! mekkasimian , I may just go ahead and send you the tracks as soon as I'm done with my edit: I think it'll benefit from your treatment. There Is Melodica
The Oracle in question being my mp3 player, on shuffle. Calling for a keynote prediction for the coming year, I hit shuffle and get: Burial, self titled album, "U Hurt Me" Oooookay. Forbidding band... I don't quite know what to do with that. So, Um. I was gonna ask you all if you wanted to get your fortunes told by my music collection, but after that performance up there I can't promise anything
Working straight through to Christmas Eve. Apparently hours are going to be sparse in January, so there's gonna be a ton of hours for everyone for the next little while. Not looking forward to it, so I... I forgot how much I love this band. If you're gonna be all "fight the power" THAT is the way to do it. I have ideas for 2010. Optimistic ideas. Exciting ideas. Risky ideas. But I won't say just yet
I suppose I wouldn't be a proper music geek if I didn't address the "best album of the 00's" thing. I confess I haven't really been focusing on that problem but I'll try. I know you expect better of me...that's in the running has to compare pretty favorably to that album. We'll see. I wonder if this is going to be the last decade where "best album of the decade" will be meaningful, or even possible
Once upon a time, I made mixtapes for friends, and when I went a-courting. I received these, too: that's how I learned about a lot of musicI came to love. What do "they" do nowadays? CDs, or has something else filled the vacuum?
Once upon a time I had the Stooges' Raw Power someone had recorded to cassette for me. I may still - it's probably in one shoebox or another because I'm a packrat and never throw things away. I've just... [2] ” Apparently they're going to release another CD edition NEXT year which will have the original Bowie mix on it. I'm more inclined to see if I can find the 1989 CD release of the albumsomewhere
Nobody anywhere TOLD me about this! Had to see it in "Best Music Writing of 2009" and it's HILARIOUS: http://www.themorningnews.org/archives/reviews/sixword_reviews_of_763_sxsw_mp3s.php Some highlights...in My Nano.” I would make sure it got to the right people. By which I mean Zach Braff, or one of the leechlike marketing creatures that feed from the skin of Steve Jobs under his mock turtleneck.
So, I have an Icelander on Amie Street who just recommended some of my songs: Paper Valentines: “This song is something I'd love to hear on the radio. Aggressive guitars, and the clapping.....love it”...like The Replacements, fronted by Billy Joel.......with bigger balls. Love it.” (I know the guy's an Icelander because I reviewed some of HIS bands songs the other day - very good stuff indeed.
Going through a weird phase of old school hip hop right now. And I mean 1980s hip hop, back when it was all Run DMC and (early) Beastie Boys. It's great because listening to it now is like stripping away...Story Of Anvil if you get the chance; it's a great documentary. And I'm glad they got their 15 minutes of fame as a result. That said, I hope their next album is their last one. cereaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
