On my walk this morning, along Big Papio Trail here in suburban Omaha, I saw fireflies. Interesting little suckers, those guys. The precise color and blink pattern varies by species. I know I saw at least two blink patterns. The trail is in a well developed area, along a watercourse greenbelt where I usually hear owls and nighthawks, but there's plenty of artificial light sources nearby. Sometimes...
...am to drive three hours back to Portland. Today is a total loss, with respect to any form of productivity more important than lying on the couch and re-reading the same paragraphs over and over. ...tillyjane off at her place, then driving to Pacific County, WA to my parents' beach house. So, erm, 5+ hours in the car and 3+ hours in airport and airplanes. Whew. Beach house for a week (working the Day Jobbe from here as well as forging ahead on Endurance ), then Omaha, then back to San Francisco and calendula_witch on the 17th. Slept short, hard and not very well. Horrible thunderstorm roaming around here in Omaha at 3 am. Highway was actually rather dangerous due to heavy standing water and strong crosswinds. My feet are soaked. Airline checkin opened late. SFO connection boards 10 minutes after I arrive, which is made of Grade A fail. Not to mention SFO's runway problems of late. Tried to reroute, everything's overbooked...
So I was real tired last night. (Gee, I wonder why?) So I went to bed early. So I woke up early, just after 3 am. So I went for a walk. So I came back to my hotel room and wrote for two hours before heading out for the day jobbe. So that's another 4,200 words on Endurance . It's a sickness, I tell you.
