Sorry about that, I hate doing combo recipes but you kinda have to have the sauce too, and well... We have to put the thing together, right? ROAST LAMB lamb shoulder (maybe 3 lbs) sliced red onion 2 cloves garlic ~2 tblsp fresh cracked pepper...

Weekend recipe ≈ Pan-roasted garlic

...Suppers for Family and Friends (Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 2004), p.151. (I just went out and bought this cookbook after bringing it home for a while from the library ―it's got lots of  recipes I want to try, and its title and seasonal format appeal to me: right up my alley. Well, as the year goes on I'll see if it was worth its high price ― it's available only in hardcover.) ____________...

Fresh tomato sauce

From the Food forum in the New Cafe: Today I am truly cooking tomato sauce. Well, making it, anyway. I bought a bushel of Roma tomatoes from a local farmer last night. I do it the lazy way -- pop tomatoes in blender and liquefy, then drain for a while, put pulp in jars, put jars in pressure canner. I used to do the blanch/peel/seed/cook/can route and discovered this is much easier.

Holiday sanity

The vacation was wonderful, 5 whole days for ourselves! We hit both the u-pick orchard and the u-pick farm down in Wilcox. Green tomatoes, Asian pears, apples, zucchini, crookneck and pickling cucumbers...out of melon. Place in large container to chill. Stir before serving. Makes half a gallon to a gallon. *You can use any kind of melon; watermelon, candy cane or honeydew are all good ones to use

Other stuff this week...

I got so wrapped up in political stuff and weather worries that I forgot to mention the good things this week! I went to see Mamma Mia! again, this time the sing-a-long version. It was a lot of fun! ...peek at the music" nights. We don't sing in church for another couple of weeks. My latest cross stitching update: http://kirastitch.blogspot.com/2008/09/inch-by-inch.html That's about it!
