A couple months worth of quick movie reviews for no particular reason

... On the one hand, it's not as good as I'd hoped given the hype while it was in production and the phenomenal trailer; on the other, it's nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be based on the reviews it got when it came out. It's as gorgeous as the trailer promised and is--as was made clear during production--clearly inspired by John Woo's (who produced) Bullet in the Head . But that film...

Just finished watching the new BBC Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. I liked them both. There were some weird incongruous sexy dreams in Northanger, but I loved the depiction of Cathy, and actually...day Armed soldiers force Tory MP to eat coffee creamer This guy obviously picked the wrong family to try to victimize... And finally, A translation of the Hungarian verse of "Cell Block Tango"

...Why, why am I so stumped on the "Introduce yourself :D" paper? There is nothing about me I want to freely divulge to you as my teacher. Please stop asking v_v So, while I'm procrastinating, some reviews? Clone Wars was not terrible? Okay, it was pretty bad, but I wasn't expecting much and the opportunity to geek out with grinningrobot about Star Wars again was so totally worth it...

Matt Costa, Ryan Adams & Oasis

Last night Ottawa was given the rare opportunity to truly rock out as Canada’s national capital hosted Matt Costa, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, as well as the big ticket, Oasis. Matt Costa was...those years ago, but also why I remain a fan of them today. That magic was at the show last night in spades; a feeling that sadly The Smashing Pumpkins could not manage to emulate last year.

I say, dash it all it's Bones in the UK

We just watched the two-parter season opener of Bones . Set in the UK. Oh yes, you know what that means. Not any UK, of course, but that very specific one populated by red telephone boxes, London monuments... People suddenly become really dense or really perceptive as the plot or comedy punchline dictate. It's a dumb, amiable show. Being set in the UK just makes it grate that little bit more than normal. :-)

Kindle-licious on Wodehouse’s Psmith: Love is an Umbrella

This is technically not a proper Kindle-licious review, since the only way (as of this writing) that you’ll be reading Leave It to Psmith on the Kindle is if you digitize the book yourself. However...Book , CDs From what you see in the book; Wodehouse is well-known for his thorough revision process [ ↩ ] Originally published at Spontaneous Derivation . You can comment here or there .
