Paul Melko "Singularity Ring": book review

I really wanted to like Paul Melko's "Singularity Ring". I'm a sucker for everything that has Singularity in the title. But it failed to draw me in. By the way -- maybe it's just me, but by stating the...are not woven seamlessly into the plot. That's actually a common flaw in many science fiction books. It's hard to do it right. Well, this is Paul Melko's first novel, so maybe there's still hope

good reading

I don't usually care for "paranormal romances" because for me, science fiction/fantasy is the dominant mode, so if they aren't satisfying on that level, I can't just sit back and enjoy the romance. However...(Krentz) and historical (Quick) romances also often feature (mostly) well-handled psi. I have previously enjoyed a number of those (although the last Quick novel was disappointing at best)

And I thought it was just the Americans...

When I left Germany in the late eighties, the country was undergoing a green revolution. Over the decade that followed, draconian recycling schemes were put into place that made me blush when I had to...on the fictional future climate of my fictional novel ;) P.S. Odd, but the long list of LJ moods hardly ever contains an option for my current state of mind, as in 'exasperated'. I give up..

Record Sale Bargain Finds, Part II: The Tubes!

Ahhh, to be a collector geek:  I accidentally got a 2nd white label promo of The Tubes 3rd album "Now" the other day. Alas, I learned from the Tubes' website   I need to keep both as the back cover...I thought it was a ghastly sell out... I only knew the Tubes of White Punks on Dope and What Do You Want From Life then, but maybe it really was just a natural evolution of where the band was going?

Another satisfied reader!

A Science Fiction Book Club member writes on the club's page for Marseguro : "Good read, strong character...I enjoyed this book all in one evening. It was too good to put down. Strong female character... Well, not too bitter... One plus side to not getting a Book Awards nomination? I'm free to go to the Great Big Sea concert that night upstairs in the very same building. So that's something
