So, after my post on how Media and Lit Natcons were joined, and how media fandom as a whole got thoroughly screwed, general consensus was that the whole situation sucked. So what are we going to do...doesn't exist, but our Natcon is skewed ridiculously heavily towards Lit. Media fandom believed in community, and for over a decade that community has let them down. And I think that's long enough
In the early 90's the media Natcon was going gangbusters (300-400+ attendees), the lit Natcon was dying with a slowly decreasing (around 200) and aging membership. With the success of a couple of joint... One of the architects of the change, in light of all that has happened, has commented to me on several occasions over the last ten-plus years, that he thinks they killed the wrong Natcon
This post has been brewing for a couple of years. It's not about any one of the many causes worth fighting for, it's not about or aimed at any one person, it hasn't been spurred on by any one event. Abuse... withholding acknowledgment from the people who do it right, and by aiming cheap shots at the promising students when they make a mistake, then you know as little about humanity as those you wish to educate
Something that's been bothering me for ages, and I want to see fixed... First let me state, I don't have a problem with religion. For a quick lowdown on my thoughts regarding religious folk (and skeptics... The sorts of mistakes and liberties taken with science in many films are the equivalent of having Jesus part the Red Sea, while Moses loads up his Ark, and Noah gets crucified by the Russians.
I have now seen it. I thought it was a good film, with an interesting concept/conceit - until the last ten minutes when it breaks the Monty Python rule. There's a rule of comedy that I heard many years...the original Monty Python rule quote comes from, please let me know. The original version was much better worded. Also let me know if it's not someone from Python. I like to get these things right.
Had to pop by the shops today and while I was there I bought two tins of canned soup to drop in the big bushfire relief box at the front of my local Supabarn. Made sure I picked ones that opened with ringpulls...my clothes. The good ones can be sent down. Main reason I'm writing this is to get people thinking about what they can do. But the best thing I'd seen yet on the bushfires comes from Chris Lawson
Ahahahaha! This time my dream made sense: my dad woke me up by typing, and I was like "huh?" and when I went over he'd been trying to figure out my screensaver password. So I typed it in for him. (well...from it once I finished Advent/Yuletide/Heroes_Exchange. Because I owe Carol something. xD I actually feel awake. I'm really glad about that. I haven't felt this alert after waking up in a long time
I got an infringement notice for downloading Stargate: Atlantis! MGM doesn't want people downloading their stuff, which when Channel 7 doesn't want to show it, is basically the equivalent of MGM not wanting...see a show that I would like, but I have lots of good shows to watch already, so no loss there. All it really means is the network ends up with no chance of getting my cash. Glad they don't need it
Let's see now... So, yesterday was looking after Lex, and trying to sort and rearrange files and such between feeds, etc. In the evening I rode the 5km to Belconnen (in 30 degree heat - the car is...useless. And no, I'm not fishing for compliments, just relating how my mind works. All that said, I'll probably concentrate on only looking after Lex for the next couple of days. Nachos tonight
