...I’d visited before on a prior visit to Melbourne. I also got a gorgeous pashmina there, but the pashminas, along with the chocolates are not in this pic. As for the Worldcon 2010 name-badge, I’m going to miss having it around my neck. For five days, it felt like a magic talisman, protecting me from the Evils of the world, because I was in a place where all SF/F geeks congregated, and it was good.

I thought some of you might enjoy pictorial proof of the books that have been engrossing and inspiring me, both...place we’ve always wanted to visit. Perhaps something in us knows, or feels that there will be a time when we will need it more than this. And some day, that time comes, and you’re glad you waited.

You would think I had better things to do instead of calculating my reading average for the past seven years...books! I’m hoping to at least reach my average by the end of this year. Somehow, I think I can do it. I find hours spent just reading quietly to be very healing for me, and I aim to do more of this.
This is kind of space opera mixed with cyberpunk, sequel to Crystal Rain . Humans (most prominent are people of colour) are stuck under the thumb of the alien Benevolent Satrapy - some in reservations...I don't get any interest within about a week I'll donate it to my library's science-fiction collection. So if you're interested, email me (I'll post an eta when it's gone). Tags: a:buckell.tobias.
I'm sorry I've been AWOL so long. I've been reading (reading lots!! indigenous spec-fic! whee!) just not writing up and posting. But now the term is over (almost), so I'll have a little time to pick the...real than a straightforward futuristic police-procedural. But while I might retain the adjective "Lynchian", I'd definitely jettison the adjective "Pynchon-esque." (Additional tags: Blackfeet
It's a pity that the old Fandom Wank icons are so tired, because that one guy's rant on how women are ruining science fiction isn't really worth more than a "Bitch, are you for real?" and a hearty serving of mockery. Basically, see Scalzi .

The second book in Marjorie Liu’s series about Maxine Kiss, the latest in a long line of hereditary demon hunters, features Maxine’s boyfriend, a former priest, being targeted for his own (mostly unknown...is far from a bad thing, it’s just less interesting to me than Maxine’s mythic heritage, and every tidbit dropped about past Kiss women making me want more of them, and less of anything else.
