British rulings against homeopathy are liable to make the detestable John Benneth stamp his feet and pout. Better yet, we might get a new video attacking the messenger - Steven Novella - with all of the wit and well-reasoned arguments of the first. (Ah, sarcasm...)
Gardner's profile is here . I was thoroughly bummed when I read about this at work, especially since one of Gardner's earliest books was a favorite of mine for a long time even though the wackjobs he profiled in it (with the exception of L. Ron Hoover of the First Church of Appliantology) were well past their heyday. He'll be missed.
You've gotta say one thing about Mike Adams: he's consistent. Previous examples of him waxing nutjob on various subjects (such as the death of Patrick Swayze and health care reform that doesn't take...applies to the first example and another one that I may need to go on medication to bring my LDL level down definitely applies to the latter two. And Adams actually gets paid to write this idiocy
Well, someone found some old bones again in South Africa, and yet another controversy results. First, the pro: Berger and his collaborators based their conclusions on A. sediba's distinctive amalgam...among paleontologists automatically equates to Goddidit (and, as usual, fail miserably), but let's leave such sophisticated arguments to the preschoolers they're apparently intended for.
It seems that the UK Parliament's Science and Technology Committee has made a decision on the hacked email controversy concerning Professor Phil Jones and the University of East Anglia; namely, it's mostly a load of nuthin '. The Committee's web commentary is here , but it you want to slog through the full-length report it can be found here in PDF format.
The James Randi Educational Foundation has issued their 2009 Pigasus Awards , and - unsurprisingly - one of the recipients was none other than Dr. Mehmet Oz , primarily for the same reasons that I referenced earlier. (While you're at it, feel free to check out Peter Bowditch's previously mentioned site ratbags.com ; it's a treasure trove of source material on Dumbth.)
(...with apologies to Doctor Who , of course.) On March 30th, either an amazing breakthrough in our understanding of physics will occur or we're all gonna diiiiiiie , but my guess is that neither... I now return you to your TiVoed episode of last night's Dancing with the Feral Mutants from Aldebaran , which may end up being more plausible than a lot of other real life current events of late
Why, it's none other than Dr. Oz . And for good reason: If Mehmet Oz had Joe Mercola on his show, he's definitely crossed the woo Rubicon (or should I say Woobicon?). He's passed the point of no return...against him by the British Chiropractic Association, there's an online petition in support of reforming English libel laws. If you can agree with me for a daunting ten seconds, go ahead and sign it
I've railed against the idiocy of celebrity anti-vaccinationists before, but it turns out that Orac ran into one directly, and it's none other than Jim Carrey , apparently filling in for his old lady...thimerosal/autism link is dead in the water and starting to sink. You've gotta love it when certain morons begin to assume that their fame and money somehow makes them something other than morons
For anybody who followed the row concerning the creationist "documentary" Expelled , this piece on Ben Stein trying his damnedest to make Martha Coakley look worse than she actually is should come as... so why listen to actual evidence when a buck was to be made? Oh, and his work for Comcast and other advertisers fills me with even more boredom towards commercials, if that's even possible
