Our Rhinebeck /New York State Sheep & Wool Festival trip was wonderful again :) Great cold clear weather, gorgeous leaves. As usual, I go to help my Mom in her booth, Ewe & Me Merinos, which focuses...to turn into roving & yarn. Taos was also recommended, but they sometimes have over a year's backlog. I didn't actually buy any fiber, although I now want to make even _more_ stuff from my mom's yarn
... The water out here..sucks. Our water co-op sucks. I want a well so bad - if I have enough of my bonus left after taxes, I'll get one dug. I want OFF of the co-op....seriously, they suck.) Been spinning away on the kilt-hose yarn. Got another bobbin-full spun last night during NOVA (this episode was on Fractals - TOTALLY fascinating! Mandelbrot's set is.....whoa, it's cool. I think I need to...
...of PLYING so now I can do all sorts of stuff! My thoughts: Yes this class is well worth it, you come home with a spindle, roving, yarn you spun yourself, & knowledge. Its a great introduction to spinning and the 2.5 hours went by FAST! So I know I was enjoying myself. Overall so worth the $40. If you are thinking of going: go! You will have a great time, and its money well spent. Now I just want...
...off the old varnish and stain (and damn there was a lot of it), sand it smooth, stain it, stencil it, and teak oil it. Yesterday I finished waxing and assembling all the parts and actually started spinningyarn on my new wheel. It's even more beautiful than I imagined it could be. There was some lovely wood grain hidden under that old varnish. I only remembered to take the before shot after all...
I am off to the Drop Spindle Class tonight. For future reference, all those who thought this was a cool idea but couldn't do it for one reason or another: they have added another class AND the entire...6pm. I will keep you all updated on how I thought the class was and all that. But its great to get out there and try new things and $40 for a 2.5 hour class with the materials included, not so bad!!
...Aid on the other side. Note that one uses a relatively large amount of Kool-Aid for dyeing an item, as opposed to professional dyes. Then I microwaved it for one minute several times, turning over once. Now it's fluffy and squooshy. :) Seriously, I want to pull out my spindle right now and start spinning it up. I hope I did enough for a scarf, but if not, I've got my recipe jotted above.
Time to clear up, gather the scattered threads & re-weave my webs. I've been so out of touch, so unconnected these past few weeks & the dust on my altar reflects an innerspiritual neglect. As my head...to the distracting black header & the lack of awareness & the ignornace implicit in the wording. Were I not a lady, I might be reduced to unseemly language. Rhymns with 'duck' & 'cough.'
...remember to get Bryian the picture of the flax brake so that he can make one for me, then I can proceed to the breaking/braking of the flax stalks, then on to the scutching, hackling and finallyspinning. I will be"photo-journaling" my progress. Then, in spring, I will hopefully be ordering some flax seed to plant and grow my own flax (most likely at Robbins). With the closing of Robbins I now...
