Stratford adventures

Since I was in the Midlands on Friday I came up with a masterplan. Work in Birmingham on friday, go visit a friend in Warwick on Friday night. Visit Stratford and meet with friends on Saturday to give them some books I got at the book sale that visits my work every few weeks (DW Time travellers Almanac for only £4, whoop whoop!) Stratford was a lot of fun (if bitterley cold).  Met up with Em and...

Excerpts from the Travel Journal: Day Nine--Stratford to London to Boston

We had an early morning, sneaking out in darkness and driving to London as the sun rose and chased the fog. We stopped at a 24-hour rest stop that had one restaurant open, whose worker seemed bewildered...person on the planet. Or at least in the top ten. In the meantime, I shall begin a countdown to my next vacation, which is an NYC mini-mini-break to go see Daniel Radcliffe in "Equus." In 28 days.

Excerpts from the Travel Journal: Day Eight--Cardiff

...us home by a different route, and we listened to Radio One as we drove, which was making fun of teachers, which was very mean. The different route was much quicker, so we had time to stop back in Stratford for just a bit more shopping. I went off to put money in the parking meter, and when I got back, arctacuda said to me, “Meat Loaf stopped by. He said he’d do anything for love, but he won’t do...

Excerpts from the Travel Journal: Day Seven--Charlecote AND DAVID TENNANT

The next day we drove back into Stratford to duck into the Internet café. We also tried to buy meat for the pot roast I was making at dinner, but the little store in town didn’t have it, nor did the toy store next door have any fun DW toys. FAIL. jlrpuck ducked in for coffee, which took forever, because they were not so into working quickly, then we drove to the bigger Tesco to buy the...

Excerpts from the Travel Journal: Day Six--Wells and Cheddar

The next morning was a very early morning, because we were meeting T at Wells Cathedral at 10:30. The drive was not long distance-wise but took forever because we could only take the motorway so long...say for their army? Well, it’s regular, and it’s territorial.” There was a moment of silence before arctacuda ventured, “Guys? I think it’s their two types of army: regular and territorial.”

Excerpts from the Travel Journal, Day Five: Hamlet

...of the Lucy family. The staircase to our flat is actually accessible from the public rooms, which is very cool, so we ducked around the velvet rope to go upstairs to get ready for our journey into Stratford for Hamlet . We drove into Stratford and had high tea at Crabtree & Evelyn. Yes. Weird, right? It was very cute, though, even if I did it wrong by starting with a ham and cheese sandwich...

Stratford, Ontario

And now I can't stop posting! LOL! Hubby and I got a chance to catch The Taming of the Shrew at the Stratford Festival today, and were absolutely blown away.  This is the third production of this play we've seen at Stratford, and it was - by far - the best yet.  It is set in the Elizabethan 1590s, apparently one of the few, if not the only play of Shakespear's set in his time.  The costumes were...

While arctacuda was showering, jlrpuck and I took another trip to the grocery store. We still had another DT play ahead of us, remember, and we needed to have nachos. Plus, arctacuda thought...Tim McCarver babbling at me, but where Fox was showing commercials, we switched over to a studio where some idiot American was offering commentary, paired with a British sportscaster. Totally awesome.

Excerpts from the Travel Journal: Day Three--"Love's Labour's Lost"

The next day was “Love’s Labour’s Lost” day, and so we woke, had breakfast, showered (that bathroom is so beautifully flooded with natural light), and headed into Stratford. Which was a disaster. Because it was the Mop Fair. The entire town center was closed to cars because it was being occupied by a carnival. This threw Verity (ha ha ha!) into a dither but we found parking, paid, and walked into...

Excerpts from the Travel Journal: Day Two--London to Warwick to Stratford

In the morning, jlrpuck went to pick up arctacuda once the alarm went off. I showered and then watched cricket for basically two hours, still never understanding even a little bit what was...us to witness the atrocity of Alan Carr’s outfit, which featured a shirt created from a sofa pattern of pink roses. We then watched a last-season episode of “Ugly Betty” before heading to bed.
