so i have this theory about people in taiwan. expats who turn 30 and are still in taiwan turn crazy. or not crazy...just weird. like they know that they won't fit in with normal society back in their home...and college being the observer without actually getting involved with any social scene. i can do it for one more year. i'm naturally pretty anti-social anyway. but it's still going to be kind of lonely

i totally worked and then slept through my 23rd birthday. i came home from work with a killer headache, and planned to take an hour long nap before going out with various people. instead, it is now 8 am, i slept all night, and i didn't call anybody. i do NOT want to check my cell phone.

I took a train ride up to Taichung, only about 2 hours, and checked into a hotel near the train station. The room wasn't so bad, clean, central, but a little musty. This town was so humid, in fact, that it almost seemed anywhere I walked indoors had a musty smell to it, even a nearby mall. I went in back of the train station to a movie theater nearby (Vie Cinema). I really wanted to rest but I didn't...

i've turned so damn domestic. i'm cooking, cleaning and gardening...and ENJOYING it! who woulda thought? i'm really looking forward to owning my own house at some point. once i've got a solid job in the...month, let alone buy food. vic sad he'd get me sub work, but he's notorious for being unreliable. i think i'm going to be making flyers and posting them at various expat hangouts tonight. oh well

so i've decided to do only one more year in taiwan, cutting my original plan to stay in taiwan by two years. there's three reasons for this. the first is that i'm very quickly getting very tired of teaching...). i'm signing a ten month contract that lasts until june of next year either today or tomorrow. but i feel like the pressure's off of me a little because i know i'm not staying. it's quite a relief

so i was browsing the internet while my students were typing their term papers, and i came across some good stuff. first, i love schoolhouse rock. it's one of my most distinctive features stemming from...article, go here . and of course, i have to mention that RUBY'S HERE!!!! which means lots of good food and shopping at awesome markets that i didn't have the guts to go in by myself. life is good

so last friday was my last working friday for this school year, if you don't count finals. i'm terribly excited, because my fridays consist of double ps3 and a double period of 11th grade toefl right after...i won't be the newbie next year though. i know rebecca's quitting, but i've heard that vic's hiring 3 to 4 new teachers. it's weird to be considered experienced after one semester, but such is taiwan
