They are my favoriteveggie because they are so fucking versatile from fresh to cooked down paste. They taste good in damn near everything, and they are an excellent base to everything. No salad is complete without them. TOMATOES FTW!

Putting 3 gallons of Tomato basil 01 in a 3 gal carboy was a bad idea. The bubbler was full of tomato sludge this morning, so I decided to switch to a blowoff tube. In the process of doing that, I decided...excited when you stir it. This wine got so excited it erupted in a fountain of red goo all over the bedroom. I finally got to use that pile of clothes turned into rags to clean the mess up. yech
...then gave us some great peppers. Serrano, beautiful and abundant. Both were in the main bed. Watermelon--so late, it finally bloomed at the end of September (planted in June). Crimson Sweet. In main bed. tomatoes: Riesentraube, Brandy Boy, Red Brandywine, and Yellow pear were successful but very, very late despite being planted in the main bed in late May. My Pineapple tomato never ripened. :(

My favoritesandwich has to be an open-faced, broiled tomato and fennel sandwich. If you don't like the taste of licorice, stay away from fennel, and use some other vegetable instead, like cucumbers,...salt and pepper. Broil for approximately 4 minutes, or until the vegetables start to cook a teeny bit and the edges of the bread are browned. Yummmmmm! You can also shred cheese on top afterward.
