On the surface of it, a film about sisterhood and shoes doesn't sound that interesting. Partly because I don't have a sister (something I am increasingly grateful of, as I suspect she would want to spend...this). What good is the Christmas break if you can't take in a film or a dozen? I saw a couple of films this evening. One I'd meant to see for a while, the other's a highly spoken-of piece that was nominated...are strong, a great soundtrack hangs overhead and contributes in no small part to a nervy atmosphere. Well-paced and well executed, I found The Night Listener a rather enjoyable short mystery. 7/1
