William Decker was "that guy". While typical shlubs try to commit to their girl by letting them move in with them, meeting her parents, or wearing that matching lame-ass commitment ring, Decker managed to one-up them all by physically bonding with his ex and her cybernetic overlord. What a jerk.

"Is this all that I am? Is there nothing more?" These are difficult, heady questions that most adolescents ask themselves when they reach puberty. Some try to answer it by acting out. Others do so by lashing out. Lame. By trying to sterilize his home planet, V'Ger was truly ahead of the curve.

And because of this, Kirk couldn't show his face in any officer's club from Earth to Beta Antares for years without being laughed at.
