- Adjusted weatherstrip and deck grabbers on SnugTop Well, I'm still not crying. Yet. After adjusting the deck grabbers and moving the back/bottom edge of the weatherstripping outward, it seems to seal relatively well. I think that perhaps I can finally put the top on some time relatively soon.
- Test fit of SnugTop with OEM weatherstrip I'm not crying. Not yet, at least. I put the top on the car for a test fit, and the indications are somewhat encouraging although the weatherstrip situation... but the back edges may still need some adjustment. I think it can be done though, so I'm not freaking out just yet. Maybe tomorrow I will see if I can readjust the back edges to form a better seal
- Installed the Mazda OEM weatherstrip to the SnugTop - Installed the remaining stainless hardware - Began repair of "chip" on lower inner driver side corner of hardtop With a little bit of De-Solv-It...in place. $9.05 - Stainless steel screws and washers from Lowes (way too expensive for my preferences, but unfortunately I needed them today and neither Brazos Fasteners nor Lake Hardware were open.
- Tested backer-stuffed weatherstripping on car. (;_;) The rear upper corner still just doesn't seem to want to seal. I think it's a combination of a poorly positioned seat for the weatherstripping and possibly slightly out-of-tolerance alignment on the window due to worn window guides. Perhaps the SnugTop simply is too poorly manufactured. Nonetheless, I'm still going to try to brainstorm a solution...
- Inserted backer rod foam into weatherstripping I came up with an idea that seems to have worked. I made a slit along the top of the weatherstripping, cut a side/edge off of the length of rod, and then pulled each side into position. This seems to have worked nicely and I like the result better than previous attempts. I used some weatherstripping adhesive along the slit and taped it in place to...
- Repeated failed attempts to stuff hardtop door weatherstripping with material to refurbish it I managed to get a strip of the 1" backer rod into the driver side stripping by cutting a groove/channel out of it, allowing it to compress more easily. However all of my attempts to mimic that on the passenger side have met with failure as the backer continues to snap once it's about half way inserted...
$11.70 - Various foam strips and weatherstripping I purchased a couple different weatherstripping items to attempt to use by stuffing them into the worn weatherstripping on the hard top. So far, all attempts have failed. The 1" diameter backer rod seems like a potential solution, but the first attempt of getting it in place resulting in the strip snapping before I got it all the way through. It...
- Experimented with options to improve weatherstripping on hard top My first attempt to get my weatherstripping to properly seal was a failure. As were a few subsequent attempts. The 5/8" heater hose looked like it would work great, but it was too stiff and while the top would now seal, the back corner would not. 1/2" fuel hose suffered the same problem (though not as extreme). 3/8" fuel hose was...
