...Orleans trip next week, when things should, we hope, have returned to some semblance of normal. And the hurricanes and tropical storms in the pipeline all appear to be either going somewhere else or too far away to be of concern. I continue to think about what things would have been like if we'd been holding a Worldcon in New Orleans on the traditional dates, such as we did in 1988. *shudder*
Many people have observed over the years how inexpensive a Worldcon is compared to a largeprofessional conference, only to have people dismiss the extra expense of the professional conference as, "That doesn't matter because it's Big Bad Business, and they get to take it off expenses." There's a certain logic to that, but how about other hobby organizations whose members are all paying their own way...
...out all wall decoration in our house. I still have wedding notes to finish writing, but that should also be completed this week as well. I am finally posting a list of some of the many wonderfulWorldConattendeesI met, so check out their links and have fun reading their works! So WorldCon 2009 is happening here in Montreal and Emily and I are going in costume. She says she wants to be Chiana from Farscape, which I think would be an awesome look for her to do. I'm kind of jealous because I'd have so much fun bobbing and weaving and sleazing like Chiana, and talking the way she does. So I need your help to find someone just as awesome as Chiana to be at WorldCon. So far my...

We look forward to seeing Farthing Party members next year at AnticipationBoskone...trust. There's a list of conventions we'll be at in the next few months on the Reno in 2011 website , and we've also updated our ever-growing list of supporters. Thanks, everyone! Welcome aboard!
There are ways to make Worldcons less expensive and to make them have more "buzz" in the sense of making them much more crowded. Because Worldcons jumped up a size quanta, we are now too small for the...but-cheaper space. That's the gist of what I said in my latest reply to this discussion , in reply to George R.R. Martin's contention that Worldcons could easily fit back into cheap hotel space
Today is my 43rd birthday. Normally in my life, this has meant one of two things: either school is about to start (boo) or Worldcon is either here or about to be here (yay). In both cases, birthdays are something that I haven't had much time to consider. This year (and next), with Worldcon at the first weekend of August instead of the North American Labor Day weekend, I don't have that consideration...
