I really wanted to like Paul Melko's "Singularity Ring". I'm a sucker for everything that has Singularity in the title. But it failed to draw me in. By the way -- maybe it's just me, but by stating the...are not woven seamlessly into the plot. That's actually a common flaw in many science fiction books. It's hard to do it right. Well, this is Paul Melko's first novel, so maybe there's still hope
It's been quite some time (five years) since David J. Schow's last novel, Bullets of Rain , a twisting razorwire book of v iolence, identity, and mad nature (human, animal, environmental). I assume Schow... and usually only a few copies of any one of them. I never did manage to score a copy of Christa Faust's Money Shot or the re-release of John Farris 's Baby Moll. Today is a sad day for lovers of mystery novels. Tony Hillerman died at the age of 83 yesterday. His Joe Leaphorn/Jim Chee novels, set in modern-day Navajo culture, are wonderful excursions into a world...even as age began to rob him of sight and hearing, and rheumatoid arthritis crippled his hands. Sadly, if you have read Hillerman's latest book, you have read his last book.
