T.Y.

Writer's Block: Forbidden Reading

From Judy Blume to V.C. Andrews, there's always a book circulating among teens that their parents don't want them to read. What favorite book did you have to hide from your parents? View...it but I adored that book, and nothing was more soothing than my mother reading a story to me as a child. I have loved Winnie The Pooh and Wind In The Willows since the day I could read though!

[Review] Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony by Eoin Colfer

I'm still waiting on the latest book from the library and about 3 behind in the reserve list so giving the series a rest until I get it. Meantime, have finished this one while I was away, so am now up... the bloodthirsty tribe will relaunch their quest to wipe every human from the planet. Because that's what demons live to do. There can only be one winner - and this time it might not be Artemis Fowl.

Grinding Levels

Lately, I feel as if I am grinding levels on many things--doing the same tasks over and over, building up my XP, but not really going anywhere spectacular. That's not meant to sound emo and depressive... and the stuff looks delicious. I'm out of here...I have words to write, a contractor to wrangle, a human suit to work and lunch to fix. Writer's Block: Forbidden Reading

When I first read over this question, I found it to be a bit ridiculous.  I mean, what kind of parent limits their child's exposure to literature? However, now that I think back to middle school (6th...I don't regret my decision at all.  My mother found out about a year later, when I read it in class.  She was a little miffed, but not that surprised. ...Whew.  Long post is long.  Sorry about that.

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

...Bitterblue safe? It's good stuff. I feel I ought to mention, though, that there are a few places where I thought Cashore could've delved a little deeper into things. The style is also decidedly YA in places; not necessarily a bad thing, as this is a YA novel, but it could alienate some adult readers. Those are minor quibbles, though. I highly recommend this, particularly to those searching...

There are too many books about where I don't live

My parents arrive in Austin tomorrow, which is terrifying.  They've never been to Texas before, let alone our house, and my mother is nosey as hell.  Mark is up in arms about how much time he's going to... I think this disappointment is a little unwarranted - already signed - a good thing, right?  But it's no new news that I'm a wee bit neurotic, and this is just another thing for me to worry about.
