Leslie asked me why I wasn't asking for yarn for Christmas, and at the time I replied that I'd gotten lots for my birthday (which is true--I got really fabulous yarn :) But thinking about it today I have another answer as well: because I need to destash. Ok, maybe it doesn't look like much (certainly doesn't look anything like this stash), but it's really quite a bit of yarn. I'm sort of...
...for medical coding, which is good career move. I'm feeling pretty positive about the direction of my life right now. Borrowed some money, paid my bills, now I"m going to celebrate by visiting the Yarn Factory. They have some of the coolest (or warm & fuzzy depending on how ya look at it) yarns ever there, so I can get some cool stuff! Also, I'm most likely going to open a shop on etsy.com (I'm...
...so I'm going to have to go back and get more. :-( Anyway, I thought I'd go to a bigger place and get some other colours for a second scarf (we'll have one each!) but I'm not sure how much to buy. I'm making a modified season 14, but I'll like an approximate weight for each colour for a standard season 14 as skeins seem to differ a lot in size depending on the brand. I'm using acrylic yarn.
I have a lot of yarn - buying it is a bit of a compulsion. With the help of Ebay and online shopping I don't even need to leave the house or interact with people either. Over time I have amassed several bins of yarn for projects I plan to make. There is some lovely purple alpaca on the needles for a cabled hoodie I wanted for myself. The discontinued Noro Kabuto than I just couldn't get enough...
I've just acquired the yarn for a cushion that I'm making for a friend for Christmas. It's a very nice soft, chunky wool/acrylic mix, and is 25% wool. I've always been mildly allergic to wool, but since it's going out of the house I'm perfectly happy to make this project in a wool mix. My hands are usually resilient enough that I can work with a wool mix for a short period of time, but on this occasion...
...encouraged to contribute pieces to the show. Mainly because the curator/organizer of the show is the prof who teaches the experimental drawing class. So I did this lovely bit on the first floor with yarn that led from the doors to the stairs and essentially leading the people up to the gallery. Except apparently an alum walked into a bit of it (despite the fact I made sure it would hang high enough...
Guess what came for me from China!!! YARN!!! 100% worsted weight yarn ^o^ I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with it. I like the color though. In other notes, I have now officially voted. I sent off my ballot today. ^_^
You probably didn't notice this, but remember when I mentioned the chunky blue yarn I bought to make a hat? Well I just measured out its wraps-per-inch and it's totally NOT chunky, just, you know, NORMAL YARN WEIGHT. This, kids, is what happens when you spend too many hours working with thread instead of yarn. :headdesk: On the up side, I think I may have found a pattern that will work well with...
...(including my shoes) upped the stakes and peed on my knitting bag. There was a hysterical meltdown of epic porportions. But, I think it's resolved for the time being. I washed out the yarn, and the projects, and it's all good. It was the combination of stress, overwork, and not much sleep with the addition of the cat that sent me right over the edge. Today I went out to Stony Plain...
