Missing the zombies? Me too! I've been too busy and/or distracted to watch many zombie movies of late. But today, my special top-ten list of greatest/most indispensablezombie movies ever got published...parrts out entirely without losing much. Still, it's almost worth seeing just for the fact that it is a Paistani zombie movie. Anyone know if there's a Bollywood zombie epic out there somehwere?
I have re-found my utter adoration with Shaun of the Dead . I think I may love it too much. (The fact they take shelter in the Winchester Tavern does not sway me one bit. It sways me lots of giggly bits...
Nothing too exciting, just three more zombie reviews, including the very firstzombie movie, White Zombie . Mortuary Tobe Hooper directed this steaming pile of crap about a mortuary built over the...bad, but the techniques and style of the film make it seem horribly dated and the mastering left a lot to be desired in both the sound and picture quality. It was good to see where it all began, though
If you Google "zombie movies," guess what shows up on the first page? My Westword post about my thirty-day zombie movie fest. It's at the number ten (i.e. last on page) position, but that's the first time I have ever made a Google page-one search results page for a search anyone was likely to do (i.e., not my name). I feel awesome.
Actually, the fixation never really went anywhere. I was just kind of busy for a couple of weeks and couldn't find the time to squeeze in any zombie movies (or any movies at all, really). Over the last...also does this weird overlap/fade thing where both scenes are visible during almost every single edit. It's disconcerting at first, then surreal, then just fucking annoying. A truly terrible movie
Night of the Creeps The '80s were a fine time for zombie cinema. Movies like this were made and did passably well. Creeps is a '50s creature feature drive-in homage, set squarelyin the middle of a...to say other than a very brief flirtation with Obamania was quickly curtailed when he revealed himself to be simply another politician. Phew, thanks, Barry! You almost had me there for a minute
Re-Animator Another classic movie that lives up to its reputation. Young, brilliant, probably psychotic medical student seeks the key to defeating death -- and finds it. But the side effects and consequences...and plot are all decent and the gore is solid for its era. But it wasn't remarkable, and its reputation made it out to be. Overall a pretty standard '70s horror film -- not bad, but not special
City of the Living Dead I consider Fulci's Zombie to be a classic zombie film, a near-masterpiece. This movie, one of his follow-ups, is a middling exercise in atmosphere and extreme gore. The story...else but the blessed relief that came from the movie finally being over. Yeah, it's bad. It was also clearly and obviously mastered to DVD from an old videotape, possibly recorded off of television
I've been working a lot. A lot . I've been doing a variety of things with Westword , above and beyond my normal slate of writing. It's been pretty cool. The work has been consistently interesting and...fanantics, and a guy who seemed fascinated with my fascination with zombie film. Very nice. Things are good right now. I wishe my house had AC, though. It gets miserable at times being here without it
That's right, more zombie stuff. First, I'd like to announce that I will be introducing Return of the Living Dead at the Starz FilmCenter Friday night (and possibly Saturday if my other assignment falls...townsfolk pull out the guns and wipe them all out -- or do they?. The end rips off Night 's ending -- what a surprise. Apart from being slow, dull and dumb, it wasn't bad. Just kidding, it was bad
