You know, I'm not feeling great - my Crohn's might be slightly not brilliant and I had my third banana in three days, still working on that ... so I'm sitting here killing time till I can go ... *INNOCENTLY* I swear! And what happens? *Somehow* a project is thrown around, deadlines come up and before I know it, I think I have my first Worldcon project. *headdesk*
Reno in 2011 room party at Albacon
Such a friendly convention! Reno enjoyed hosting the only open room party at Albacon on Friday night. Saturday night, we turned our room...continued schmoozing about the bid (and taking more pre-supports) then.
Click the photo to see other photos from our party at Albacon as well as a few pictures from earlier this year.
...to do something from Folkin' Around but I can't choose specific words and stay within the character limit. I just watched a video of a brother and sister covering Folkin' Around together on acoustic guitars and singing together and I am chinhanding SO HARD right now. OHDUSADHUSADHUSAHUD LOVE . IN OTHER NEWS, I'VE DECIDED TO COSPLAY AS THE WHITE VIOLIN TO WORLDCON 2009. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
I recently gave an interview with Travis Heermann, of The Write Line, who I met at WorldCon. That interview is now up and can be found at http://travisheermann.com/blog/?p=58 . Check it out, and enjoy!
... What did I do to deserve her? The closing ceremonies. All special guests march across the stage, the toastmaster is funny again. The proverbial torch is passed to Montreal, host of next year's Worldcon, in a skit involving roped-up explorers. Or something. It's hard to follow because the sound doesn't work and apparently no one rehearsed. Strangely, I'm not bothered anymore. Maybe I'm just exhausted...
If you have any interest in Worldcon, and in particular if you've been involved in any of the discussions or complaints about Worldcon being too expensive or the "graying of fandom," I suggest you read an article Cheryl just posted on The Value of Worldcon discussing the issues in depth. I hope that Worldcon bids thinking about what direction their Worldcon will take will read this and give serious...

When they were bidding for the right to host the 1998 Worldcon, their pirate-themed parties featured a variety of drinks made with Captain Morgan. And for those of you who love science fiction and fantasy, there is another pirate connection to Captain Morgan...
...(I will be attending) until con. Greg, my department head, is supposed to be there. I hope he is, so I can get a better sense of the Events B position. I read Kevin Standlee's blog during Worldcon and I have a question (or maybe a clearification) to ask. Many of the volunteers call Worldcon the second largest all volunteer event in the country. I would disagree with that because there...
Cheryl reports on our attempt to attend the book launch for Anathem . As she reports, after waiting for more than an hour after the "starts promptly at 7 PM" had turned into "We're having tech problems..." And I didn't want to have the item in question in my division, either, on account of it was in space over which I had little control, so perhaps it is partially my fault, for which I apologize.
... but by the time I got in line at 8:40 am there were 40 people in front of me. Her slot filled first. I did get coffee with Larry Niven; he sold out second. 7) To fully experience a Worldcon, you must: a. be better at remembering names and faces than I’ve ever been, b. be young enough to not recognize the passage of time (and not require sleep...
