Currently at WRAIR. Medicinal chemist involved with anti-malarial drug development. Will be in the Army for 3 years in March. WRAIR mostly involved in late target optimization, formulating compounds and...a lot of money thrown at it. Malaria Vax always. Leshmaniasis. Dengue from time to time. Was very friendly and helpful. Knew many other bravos and stated being in DC as an advantage in that way
McCall Staffing just called. They have a temp gig starting for me tomorrow with Pacific Data Designs . One week or more, and it pays decent. Good thing it's more on the casual side of "business casual", since I have hardly any clothes that are suitable for an office environment. Though not permanent, it will at least give me a more recent item with a local company to put on my resume.
Following up from Mondays post on resume writers, career coaches, career counselors and job search coaches, I want to share what Ive learned about a thing called outplacement services. I did not receive...your resume for you. It depends, of course, on the overall package purchased. So that wraps it up are there any other service provider types I neglected to mention. I just got an email back from my English recruiter asking me a question about my last jobs. Another recruiter that I have also been working with, one that never returned my call in the first place, that I have been trying to track down, doesn't remember me. Who do you think is going to have a better chance of finding me a job?
Not much happening today. No resumés posted, though I did post one yesterday. Speaking of which, yesterday was something of an event. I finally got off my tokhes and FedExed all the computer equipment...given a free pass (i.e. what exactly the Scientific Method is, and why it's so important). It's a fairly long series, 26 installments, but each video is about eight to ten minutes long. Quite a hoot
For the last 3 days my phone has rung at 9am, and I have dutifully jumped out of bed to pick it up. Now, I am a night person, so when I jump up to answer a phone at 9am, it means that am probably half...internet, and maybe I would have gotten the job, making a huge profit on the investment. All I can say is... "DOH!!!" I am going to slow this down and make it all run at a speed that I can handle.
GUESS WHO GOT A JOB INTERVIEW! GUESS WHO GOT A JOB INTERVIEW! GUESS WHO GOT A JOB INTERVIEW?! I DID!!!!!!!! Also, it snowed in PA (I heard) which brings me great sorrow. So close, yet so...in here and now I can wear my sleeves rolled up instead of down and freezing anyway. OH AND WTF YOU FREAKS. I HAVE ALREADY HEARD CHRISTMAS CAROLS ON TV COMMERCIALS. IT'S NOT EVEN HALLOWEEN YET. BAH
I got a call today from a recruiter with a lovely English accent. I actually thought when I first answered the phone that one of my Brit friends was here in town and therefore was calling from a local... This, as fun as it is, is a little on the stressful side. :-) BTW, later on, I'll post some info on this company that called me. I think some of my readers might be able to work with them, as well
So I got a call out of the blue from one of the Editors with the company that laid me off a few months back. Wanted to know if I was available to do some work for them on a freelance contract basis. I...in the next month or so. I've been saving up here and there as I could, and so have gone back to trying to buy a few currency from bazaars when I find them. Current total: O. Bronze 1,756/6,000 hooo
