October's books (and September's book)

37. The Mommy Brain: How Motherhood Makes Us Smarter by Katherine Ellison Lots of studies done on rats in this one. The author is an investigative journalist, and that is evident throughout. She reports...is a history of libraries, but much more. It delves into libraries' role in our societal conscious and continually praises the beauty of books. Lots to learn from this book, and just as much to enjoy

Being Evil on UndeadJournal

I felt positively evil today as I thought warm thoughts about Global Warming. It was over 20 o and I was outside wearing just a T-shirt. And it's almost November. If not for instant darkness and leaveless...true. Because everyone should know that when your beheaded you still have time to understand the situation before you check out. Beats headless chickens running around your backyard, doesn't it?

The Fermi Paradox

At the Seasteading conference Patri mentioned something about the Fermi Paradox , which I didn't remember having heard about. It goes like this: even at very small rates of appearance of intelligent life...light years, thus even by the time they happened to notice we were here it would already be too late to contact us by radio before we happened to hit upon their "better" communications technology.

Two ways to be wrong about thermodynamics, in which I take down a essay written eight years ago.

I used to be, or would have been be if I was more important, a little outspoken on the common wisdom about entropy. For a long time, I was unconvinced of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, which states that...guy down, and email him the URL to this blog post, because everyone likes good-natured ribbing from an internet stranger. If anyone wants to make fun of the stuff I wrote in college, please contact
