While stumbling around some older links on the Geekend , a great blog hosted by geek-of-all-trades Jay Garmon at Tech Republic , I ranacross this , and knew I just had to share... Ladies and Gentlemen...thing to come out of Steampunk, I think it has to qualify as one of the classiest ones - Vernehimself would be proud...! P.S. Bonus Link: For those who like their Stormtroopers well steamed ...
Had fun with a little Verne-a-thon of gaming last night. It kicked off with the brand-newJourney tothe Center of the Earth game, which Mayfair recently sent me to review. It's a cute little card management...mentioned Mission: Red Planet , which doesn't have a direct correlation to any Vernes book, but does have the same sorta feel. The book. Why? Because lots of...you heard of Jules Verne? Yeah, the dude predicted SO MUCH in books. NASA, cars, internet, air conditioning... and he died in the 1800s before any of this. Plus, two words: Harry Potter. Nuff said.
It turns out that there's this little group of people who believe everything Jules Verne wrote about is somewhat factual! Took me going to see Journey tothe Center of the Earth 3-D in order to find this...I still managed to get lunch (and even stopped for mini-cheesecakes at a bakery!) and make it home by 2:25 pm. Then I ran around getting dressed and then outta there! Was only 2 minutes late! Yay
HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY- http://enterline-media.tripod.com/hellboy2.html JOURNEY TOTHE CENTER OF THE EARTH- http://enterline-media.tripod.com/journey3d.html I might go see THE DARK KNIGHT at midnight on Thursday.
I realize that 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was written in 1863, before the electrical age really began, but who talks like this?! [Professor Aronnax upon discovering that the Nautilus is entirely...powered by electricity;] "It is marvellous! and I see, Captain, you were right to make use of this agent that takes the place of wind, water, and steam." I love readingJulesVerne. He's so much fun
